What is Time Line Therapy® ?

Time Line Therapy® is a unique and unmatched method for quickly and effectively creating powerful and lasting change.  The process was developed in the 1980’s by Dr. Tad James, one of the world’s leading experts in the field of NLP.

Time Line Therapy® utilizes the concept of a person’s own internal Time Line, or how and where a person encodes and stores memories and experiences at an unconscious level.  The Time Line also outlines how a person unconsciously knows the difference between a memory from the past or a projection of the future.

We now know that a person’s history, his/her triumphs and tragedies, his/her joys and sorrows, his/her courage and fears, his/her empowering beliefs and limiting decisions, all contribute immensely to the basis of personality.  Time Line Therapy® allows the skilled practitioner to therapeutically intervene in a client’s Time Line, take the weight or charge off negative emotions and events, take on new learnings that were inaccessible when the events originally happened, release debilitating limiting decisions and beliefs, and create a compelling future…all of which has the tremendous potential for creating powerful change at the most fundamental roots of personality.

The Time Line Therapy® techniques allow people to work at an unconscious level to release the harmful effects of past negative experiences and change inappropriate or self-defeating programming in minutes rather than days, months or years.  The tools can assist with:

  • Inappropriate emotional reactions such as bursts of anger or rage
  • Depression and sadness
  • Chronic fear and/or anxiety
  • Release of old hurts
  • Overwhelming guilt
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Phobias
  • Unwanted thoughts and behaviours
  • Grief and Bereavement
  • Release of limiting decisions, such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’ll never be successful,” or “I don’t deserve a great marriage.”   Limiting beliefs and decisions create false limitations and hamper a person’s ability to create reachable and attainable goals and outcomes.

Perhaps one of the most notable aspects of Time Line Therapy® is that it does not require endless rehashing of painful experiences.  At the unconscious level, memories that contain a negative emotion or a limiting belief are chained together in a sequence of events called a gestalt.  Rather than focusing on individual events, Time Line Therapy® releases the entire gestalt beginning with the very first event associated with the emotion or decision, all the way to the present.  As such, painful recall of emotionally charged and/or traumatic events is not required in this safe, harmless and gentle practice.
